Listening to music outside is an amazing experience. I love when I’m able to be outside for hours at a time listening to music, live, or in a drive, or walking around. There are some albums that just happen to come alive when you listen to them when you’re on a journey somewhere. 

LCD Soundsystem are everything you want in a band right now. James Murphy and crew have put together another phenomenal album.

I have been on a huge kick with the more minimal side of electro coming up, I think it’s definitely the new sound. Caribou has released his 3rd album, he’s Canadian, and even being his 3rd album it still maintains his fingerprint. Jeremy Greenspan from Junior boys collaborated on this album, along with Kieran Hebden (Four Tet) and Luke Lalond from Born Rufians.

Apparently rambling is hard.

Just enjoying a sunny afternoon with windows open and good espresso. Listening to one of my favorite websites, http://AmsterdamAcoustics.com . A site that when I first heard it I couldn’t believe how amazing the sound and production quality had, and thought they were somehow dubbing the track.

Last year at the Calgary Folk Fest, I had a pleasant surprise from a girl names Emily Wells. Having a clear vision of the layered sounds she produces is key, as she uses Violin, keyboard and echoing toys from my childhood. 

Drowning on tomorrow, I’m losing all my hope, bottom of the well and I just lost my rope.

What does Summer hold? Sometimes you just need to go for a ride and see where it takes you.

This is the type of girl that can even break Whiskey’s heart; must have something to do with her sharing my birthday.

The right bass line rolling through a track can catapult it to greatness; the late 70’s had it down. Marianne Faithfull is among few living legends; she was the muse to one of the greatest band of all time. After a decade addled with heroine, cocaine, and anorexia, she makes a complete comeback with an album all her own. In 1979 she released Broken English; her gravelly voice and throwback to disco ring through my ears long after she’s done.

The rhythm guitar of Mark Knopfler is so unassuming it almost seems effortless. The lead in track ‘Down to The Waterline’ from their self titled first release in 1978 is an essential listen.

Diplo has been on my mind lately, the uber producer has been turning up on my ipod for snippits of his FabricLive session. There’s just something about his quirky beets that have a way of working their way into your mind. His ear for songs that will complement each other is uncanny, take a gander.

Things have been going pretty fast as of late; the whirlwind experience that the Olympics brought through February had its way with me. One of the best experiences I had was the chance to go see Four Tet at the Biltmore. In front of 200 people Kieran Hebden took the crowd through emotional waves as he constructed beats with a ‘less is more’ attitude. Another artist paving the way in the minimalist electronic scene is Pantha Du Prince; his new album Black Noise is a Must Have. 

Thankfully these two got together.
